"Bread for Art" Accepting Submissions

The program will award grant money to a local artist for the purpose of financing an art project.

The New Brunswick Community Arts Council and coLAB arts are currently accepting applications for the second installment of "Bread for Art," a program that will award cash to a local artist for the purpose of financing an art project.

According to a press release from the council, interested artists should submit a written proposal for consideration, outlining a project that they would like to produce in New Brunswick within the next year.

On June 24, they will give an oral presentation of their proposal during the Bread for Art event, to be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 24 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1 Kirkpatrick St.

All in attendance will review the proposals and have a chance to ask questions of the presenting artists, and will then score each artist based on criteria supplied by the Arts Council. One winner will be chosen to receive the cash grant, according to the release.

Dan Swern, Arts Council president and coLAB Arts producing director, said that those interested in attending Bread for Art as supporters will be asked to pay a suggested donation of $20, to cover the cost of a light lunch, with the extra going toward the grant.

"The difference goes to the artist that we feel is the most articulate and the most clear and really embodies New Brunswick," Swern said.

Food will be provided by Elijah's Promise, which helped keep the cost down and more money going toward the grant, Swern said.

Artist proposals must be one page long and include an artist biography, artist statement, project synopsis, and how it fits into New Brunswick, the release said.

Proposals should be submitted to Dan Swern at NBCommunityArtsCouncil@gmail.com .

The deadline to apply is June 18.

Anyone wishing to attend Bread for Art is asked to RSVP by June 18 at NBCommunityArtsCouncil@gmail.com.
