New Brunswick Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Wednesday

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office and New Brunswick Police are searching for the driver responsible, seen in a dark colored Toyota 4Runner

Local authorities are searching for the driver of a dark colored Toyota 4Runner built between 1995 and 2002 that struck and killed a New Brunswick man riding his bicycle at 10:53 p.m. Wednesday on Georges Road.

Leonel Lopez Hernandez, 26, was riding his bicycle home from his job as a custodian at Bristol-Myers Squibb. It is believed the Toyota 4Runner was heading on Georges Road toward North Brunswick when it crossed into the oncoming traffic lane and struck Hernandez, as he rode on the side of the road near the South Talmadge Street intersection, according to a release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle then fled the scene, but is believed to have sustained damage to the driver's side of the vehicle. The rear driver's side window of the vehicle was also shattered, authorities determined during the ongoing investigation.

According to the release, Hernandez was married with two young children.
