Reward Offered for Info in Remsen Avenue Shooting

Javier Olvera-Mondragon, 25, was shot and killed Monday morning outside of the Los Amigos Tavern on Remsen Avenue.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Anthony A. Caputo, director of the New Brunswick Police Department, announced today that Crime Stoppers of Middlesex County Inc. is offering cash rewards for anyone who anonymously provides information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in the fatal shooting of a city man on April 16, 2012.

The rewards were offered as police continue to investigate the shooting of Javier Olvera-Mondragon, 25, of Remsen Avenue, New Brunswick. He was pronounced dead on April 16, 2012, at 2:02 a.m. outside the Los Amigos Tavern at 142 Remsen Ave. after police were dispatched to the scene at 1:49 a.m.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Middlesex County Inc. by calling 1-800-939-9600. Anonymous tips also can be sent to the Crime Stoppers website at middlesextips.com. or by texting 274637 (CRIMES) with the keyword ‘’midtip’’ followed by a message.

Those who call will be given instructions on how to collect cash rewards by using a numerical code that will be recognized by a local bank, which will pay the cash rewards that are approved by Crime Stoppers of Middlesex County Inc.

Police continued seeking witnesses to the shooting and distributed flyers advising residents that rewards are being offered for information.

A preliminary investigation by Detective Ronoldy Martinez of the New Brunswick Police Department and Investigator Sean O’Lone of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the victim was shot following a dispute inside the bar.

The results of an autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office were not immediately available.

Mr. Olvera-Mondragon was employed as a cook at two restaurants in East Brunswick.
