Three Men Rescued from the Raritan River Sunday
The New Brunswick Police Marine Unit rescued three men from the Raritan River during Independence Day festivities Sunday.
Three adult men from the New Brunswick area were rescued by the New Brunswick Police Marine Unit around 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, amid the city’s Independence Day Celebration.
After the men’s canoe had capsized, distress calls were made to the Marine Unit, which was on patrol in the Raritan River due to the increased boat traffic generated by the evening’s festivities.
The three men, found clinging to their canoe, were carried south on the river by the tidal current. They were pulled aboard the police boat between New Brunswick Landing at Boyd Park and Donaldson Park in Highland Park.
Likely attributable to their wearing life jackets, the men were safely rescued and returned to shore without serious injury.
