VIDEO: "Jangala" Fuses Indian Dance with Contemporary Ballet

Lustig Dance Theatre will premiere "Jangala" at 7 p.m. Saturday at Middlesex County College.

A classic story of a lost boy in the jungle is told through a fusion of modern ballet and Indian dance styles in Lustig Dance Theatre's latest production, "Jangala."

Inspired by Rudyard Kiplings "The Jungle Book" and combining classical Indian dance and modern ballet, Lustig Dance Theatre promises an innovative and experimental performance that is suitable for adults and children ages seven and up.

Artistic Director Graham Lustig said the piece was created in collaboration with Renuka Srinivasan of the Tala Shruti Dance School in the Fords section of Woodbridge Township. Srinivasan is an accomplished dancer in Bharatanatyam, an ancient style of Indian dance.
