Haunting Love to premiere at the New Jersey Film Festival on January 25 at Rutgers University!

Brilliantly merging gorgeous cinematography with horror, Haunting Love, a new film from China revolves around love, betrayal, and revenge. When a young woman tries to kill herself, after her lover commits suicide, she is saved at the last minute, and establishes a link with the supernatural that leads down a terrifying, unknowable path.

Chinese made horror films are very scare because of government restrictions and censorship. Li Anlan of the Shanghai Daily wrote back in October: “China has no rating system and films are approved one by one, scene by scene. For example, no real ghosts are permitted because they represent superstition - thus, the only allowable ghosts must be in dreams or the imagination. And they can't be too graphic.”

Liang Ting’s film Haunting Love has bucked this trend and has made its way on to the big screen. It will have its U.S. Premiere at the New Jersey Film Festival on Friday, January 25 at Rutgers University. This very atmospheric film tells not only a horror story, but also a love story, and a murder mystery. It is stunningly shot, well acted and has very high production values. Like Val Lewton’s films of the 1940s, Haunting Love uses a subtle psychological horror and American audiences will get a rare chance to see a genuine mainland Chinese horror film on the big screen.

Two excellent short films (Destroying Angel and 1000 grams) will also be screened prior to Haunting Love.
