New Jersey Film Festival Spring 2013!! 

The Rutgers Film Co-op/New Jersey Media Arts Center, in association with the Rutgers University Program In Cinema Studies, is proud to present the New Jersey Film Festival Spring 2013 which marks our 31st Anniversary.  Showcasing new international films, American independent features, experimental and short subjects, classic revivals, and cutting-edge documentaries, the New Jersey Film Festival Spring 2013 will feature over 50 film screenings.

All the works that we are screening, with the exception of seven programs, are part of the New Jersey Film Festival competition and were selected by a panel of judges including media professionals, journalists, students, and academics. These judges selected the 23 finalists which will be publicly screened at our Festival. The finalists were selected from over 311 works submitted by filmmakers from around the world. In addition, the judges will choose the Prize Winners in conjunction with the Festival Director. Prize winners will be announced after the screenings on Sunday, February 10, 2013.

Film Premieres:
Over 50 films will have their New Jersey or Area Premiere (Middlesex County) screenings as part of the New Jersey Film Festival Spring 2013 and the United States Super 8 Film & Digital Video Festival. Some of these include: Liang Ting’s brilliant horror film Haunting Love; Tom Bewilogua’s mesmerizing short1000 grams; Claire Ying-chin Wang’s surreal Treeman; Eric Patrick’s terrific animated film Retrocognition; Sam Newman and Susan Sipprelle’s timely documentary feature on the Great Recession Set For Life; Ana Garcia Abad’s stunning short Olivia; Janet Gardner’s deeply moving feature documentary Lost Child: Sayon’s Journey; James Huang’s heartfelt indy feature Starting From Scratch; Dustin Grella’s terrific short Animation Hotline; Craig DiFolco’s touching feature The Last Days of August;  Liliana Komorowska’s Beauty and the Breast – a compelling portrait of the challenges of living with breast cancer; Iara Lee’s The Suffering Grasses – a searing documentary on the current crisis in Syria; Ellie Fox’s Under the Apple Box  - a compelling and beautifully filmed feature about a young Iranian woman who is forever tormented by her past and many, many others. 25th Annual United States Super 8 Film & Digital Video Festival:    
Also during the Spring 2013 season, the Rutgers Film Co-op/NJMAC will present the 25th anniversary of the United States Super 8 Film & Digital Video Festival -- the longest running, nationally recognized, juried 8mm Film/Video Festival in North and South America.  Each of the three evenings (February 15-17, 2013) in Voorhees Hall #105, Rutgers University) will feature a different program of films from throughout the USA, Canada, and the world. Over 200 filmmakers are competing for many Best of prizes. Prize winners are announced on the last night of the Festival and audience members will vote for their favorite film. The Super 8 Festival is open to works predominantly shot on either Super 8/8mm film, Hi8/8mm video and/or Digital Video. This program is being co-sponsored by Eastman Kodak, Jungle Software, Pro 8mm, PAC Lab, Gorilla Software, Johnson & Johnson, and many others. Special Guest Appearances by Directors, Artists, and Actors:
This fall we are pleased to announce over twenty-five confirmed special guest appearances by film directors, producers, and actors to the New Jersey Film Festival Spring 2013! All visiting directors will introduce their work and do a Question and Answer session after the screenings. Classic/Experimental Films Highlight Thursday Evening Screenings plus four Special Programs:
Classic and rare experimental film screenings will take place on select Thursday evenings. They include: Eadweard Muybridge, Zoopraxographer on January 31;  Films by Stan Brakhage on February 21; and Seconds on February 28. Also we will presenting the two part Jersey Fresh: Films by Jersey Filmmakers program on February 22 and 23 as well as two free screenings. In addition, the Rutgers Film Co-op/New Jersey Media Arts Center will offer 5 of our very popular film/video workshops, taught by professionals, during the spring.
