Swim Little Fish Swim (Jour 2 Fête) - Ruben Amar and Lola Bessis (Paris, France)
A dream-like independent feature film featuring terrific direction, acting, and cinematography, Little Fish Swim ( links New York City and Paris in a tense embrace. Lilas is a l9-year-old aspiring artist, who is indifferent to her own dark beauty, and more focused on pursuing her own career, having left Paris (as well as her overbearing mother, an acclaimed painter) for the bright lights of New York. When Lilas moves into a couple's tiny Chinatown apartment, the already fragile balance between Leeward and Mary is upset even further. As she navigates her way through the intimate lives of others, through the treacheries of the New York art world, and through the streets of New York, Swim Little Fish Swim tracks her journey from adolescence to adulthood with sensitivity and quirky charm. In French and English, subtitled. 2013; 95 min. Co-sponsored by the Rutgers University French Department!
