20th Annual Tree Lighting, Chili Cookoff To be Held Tonight

New Brunswick City Market will present their annual tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. tonight, Friday, Dec. 7, complete with a chili cookoff, carriage rides and musical entertainment.

Holiday cheer will be plentiful on Livingston Avenue tonight, Friday, Dec. 7, during the annual Tree Lighting ceremony presented by New Brunswick City Market.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the free, outdoor event at the corner of Livingston Avenue and George Street will feature vendors, refreshments, musical entertainment, a visit from Santa and a chili cook off, featuring offerings from New Brunswick restaurants.

Tasting kits for the chili cookoff are available for $1 each, each including a ballot to vote for the best chili.

Free horse-drawn carriages will pick up passengers outside of the Heldrich and the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick hotels for a tour of downtown New Brunswick, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Additional dates for carriage rides include 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 8, 14-15 and 21-22.
