3rd Earth Comics Touches Down on Easton Ave

A new comic book shop is in business on Easton Avenue.

Escape from reality by ducking into a new comic book shop on Easton Avenue.

3rd Earth Comics opened at 135 Easton Ave. in April. Since that time, owners Marrey Guzman and Barry Mitchell have filled it to the brim with toys, comics and other things to delight lovers of fantasy and science-fiction.

Guzman and Mitchell are avid cosplayers who attend conventions often. They are currently working on a number of new outfits, including female Hellraiser, Iron Man, and Princess Leia from Star Wars.

They recently attended Asbury Park Comic-con, where their elaborate group costumes of Batman, Batgirl, their baby as Robin and Mitchell's mother as Penguin drew lots of attention and photos.

Guzman said the comic book store was started out of Mitchell's love of comic books as a child.

"This was his escape," she said.

In addition to comics, the store stocks collectibles and toys, retro video game systems that can be rented by the half hour and hour, anime and manga and games like Magic, HeroClix and Pokemon.

Players of those games can also meet at the store to play, Guzman said.

They also host events like karaoke, video game tournaments, birthday parties and workshops on how to create costumes, Guzman said.

"We enjoy what we do. We want other people to enjoy what we do," she said.

3rd Earth Comics is located on the second floor of 135 Easton Ave., above Sanctuary.
