UPDATED: The Fresh Grocer Postpones Opening of New Brunswick Store to Nov. 9

The store will now open at 9 a.m. Nov. 9, a full week after the originally scheduled opening date.

UPDATE: The Fresh Grocer, a new supermarket that was scheduled to open in New Brunswick this week at the Health and Wellness Plaza, has pushed its grand opening back again, now scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9.

The opening was previously scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2, and was moved to Nov. 5 following Hurricane Sandy.

The recovery from the storm has caused the company to again move the opening date to Nov. 9.

"We want to help serve our community’s recovery efforts by making available groceries and supplies,” said Fresh Grocer President and CEO Patrick J. Burns in a prepared statement. “As cleanup efforts began mid-week, our goal was to get the store open on Monday, November 5, just a few days after our originally planned date. Unfortunately, we have found ourselves up against a number of unforeseen challenges caused by the hurricane and its aftermath that have forced us to push back the grand opening to November 9.”

The Fresh Grocer is a 50,000 sq. foot supermarket company that specializes in fresh food in urban areas. The New Brunswick store will be a full-service supermarket, catering facility, and have ready-made foods such as pizza, a coffee bar, and a salad bar.

It is staffed by approximately 315 people, 70 percent of which are from New Brunswick, and another 20 percent living within two to five miles from the store, according to the company.

The supermarket had also planned a VIP preview cocktail party on Nov. 1 that has been canceled. In lieu of the party, The Fresh Grocer will be making a donation to the American Red Cross to assist with disaster relief, the company announced.

The Fresh Grocer will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For more information, visit www.thefreshgrocer.com.
