9/11 Memorial Events Scheduled for Sunday

Events happening in New Brunswick this weekend in memory of 9/11.

On Sept. 11, several community events will be held around the city. Check out our list below and let us at New Brunswick Patch know of any other community events or fundraisers happening this weekend. The list will be updated over the next few days.

At 8:30 a.m. Sunday, the Rutgers ROTC will hold the 4th Annual Run For The Warriors 5K on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University.

Registration opens at 7 a.m. at High Point Stadium.

Proceeds generated from the event will benefit the Hope For The Warriors Program, according to the event website.

From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday, the new Brunswick Elks will hold a pancake breakfast at their Lodge, located at 40 Livingston Ave.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Voices of 9/11 and the Army of Hope, according to a release from the county.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 12 and younger.

At 1 p.m. Sunday, the City of New Brunswick and the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders will host a memorial ceremony at New Brunswick High School, 1000 Somerset St.

The 90 minute ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will honor first responders and those killed on Sept. 11, and military servicemen and women who participated in conflicts resulting from the attack, according to a release from the county.

The New Brunswick Elks color guard will present a flag, patriotic music will be played during the service,m and names of Middlesex County victims will be read during the ceremony, according to the release.

Attendees are asked to bring canned food for a food drive.

Honored guests are being sought for the event, and may include the families of people killed during the attacks, military servicemen and women, and first responders, according to the release.

The New Jersey Blood Center has organized a blood drive specially for the week leading up to and the weekend of 9/11 and is currently accepting appointments.
