Letter to the Editor: Goodman and Mercado Ideal School Board Candidates

The New Brunswick for Elected School Board Committee has endorsed Cedrick Goodman and Jerry Mercado for the New Brunswick Board of Education.

On Nov. 6, 2012, the voters of New Brunswick made history by voting “Yes” for an elected school board. Due to the change from a Type 1 school board to a Type 2, the New Brunswick Board of Education has called a special election for Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 to elect two additional members to the school board.

The New Brunswick For Elected School Board Committee, chaired by Yolanda Baker, has reviewed all of the candidates’ qualifications and we have agreed that Jerry Mercado and Cedrick Goodman are the best choices for the school board.

Yolonda explained “We are only concerned with the children of New Brunswick and their right to a quality education. This is about whom will best represent the children’s interests and put the children first. Both Jerry and Cedrick have been involved in the city for a very long time and both have experience with the school system.

Our children don’t need new beginnings; they need new leadership to move the school district towards improving education and communication between parents and the school administrators. We would appreciate the support of New Brunswick residents for our candidates, Jerry Mercado who appears on line 3A and Cedrick Goodman who appears on line 4A on the ballot for the election on Tuesday, Jan. 22nd.”
