Arrest Made in French Street Home Invasion

An Irvington man has been arrested in connection with a Thursday home invasion in which a woman was reportedly sexually assaulted.

Authorities have arrested an Irvington man in connection with a home invasion and sexual assault that took place Thursday at a French Street home.

According to a release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, Corey L. Stewart, 23, of Irvington was arrested at his home at 12:30 a.m. Friday and charged with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault and burglary.

On Thursday, the Prosecutor's Office that authorities were searching for a suspect in the home invasion, which happened in broad daylight around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, Stewart and the 18-year-old victim do not know each other.

Stewart allegedly choked the victim during the assault, but weapons were not used, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

Stewart is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick. Bail has not yet been set.

The investigation is being handled jointly by Investigator Andreea Capraru of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Det. Raymond Quick of the New Brunswick Police Department.
