Arrest Made in May Armed Robbery of Liquor Store In New Brunswick

An arrest has been made in connection with an armed robbery at a New Brunswick liquor store, police said.

According to New Brunswick police:

On Saturday, a suspect in the May 5, 2014 armed robbery of the Discount Liquors, located at 53 Georges Road was apprehended. The suspect, identified as Edwin Santiago-Soto, (48 years of age from New Brunswick), has been charged with Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

His bail has been set at $100,000.00.   On May 5, 2014 at approximately 11:30 pm the suspect entered the liquor store and struck the store owner repeatedly on the head with an imitation firearm, while demanding money. The store owner was able to thwart the attack and the suspect fled without any proceeds of the robbery. The suspect was arrested on Commercial Avenue near Comstock Street, just a few blocks from the liquor store of the May incident.
