City Man Killed in in Franklin Boulevard Car Accident

Mark Byrd was pronounced dead after his car crossed into oncoming traffic on Franklin Boulevard and struck another vehicle.

A New Brunswick man was killed early Saturday night in a car accident on Franklin Boulevard near Hamilton Street.

According to a report in the Star-Ledger, Mark Byrd, 49, of New Brunswick was driving on Franklin Boulevard at 5 p.m. Saturday when his 1997 Mitsubishi Galant crossed the center line of the roadway near Hamilton Street and struck a 2006 Toyota Sienna head-on.

Despite resuscitation attempts by police officers, Byrd was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, according to the report.  

A 45-year-old Monmouth Junction woman and her 15-year-old daughter were the occupants of the other car, and were treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to the report. 

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, according to the report.
