Former Rutgers Student's Death Ruled A Homicide

A former Rutgers University student who was found dead in a New Brunswick backyard earlier this month was the victim of a homicide, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

William R. McCaw, a 22-year-old Kean University student found dead after he apparently had been fatally beaten, was the victim of blunt force trauma, according to Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey.

"The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office extends its sincere sympathy to the family and friends of William McCaw," Carey said in a statement. "We, along with the New Brunswick Police Department, will continue to aggressively pursue our investigation. We urge anyone with information to do the right thing, and come forward."

McCaw, a native of Hillsborough whose family later moved to Gallatin, Tenn., was found outside a home on Hartwell Street after an unidentified neighbor called police on Feb. 15 at 10:26 a.m., according to Carey and Anthony A. Caputo, director of the New Brunswick Police Department.
