A Perth Amboy man has been charged in the fatal stabbing of
a 37-year-old man, Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Perth Amboy Police Chief Benjamin Ruiz announced
Dana Kearney, 32, was initially charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an
unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the
fatal stabbing of Christopher Sharp on Aug. 18.
The murder charge was added
following an investigation conducted by Detectives Carlos Rodriguez and Marcos
Valera, both of the Perth Amboy Police Department, and Investigators Frank
DiNinno and Jose Rodriguez, both of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office,
His bail, initially set at
$250,000, was raised to $500,000. He is being held at the Middlesex County
Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick.
Police were summoned to a
house on William Street around 1:57 a.m. on Aug. 18, where Sharp was pronounced
dead on the scene, according to officials.
An autopsy conducted by the
Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Sharp was stabbed, and Kearney
was apprehended at a home in Plainfield at 7:41 p.m. the same day, according to
