Newark Man Beaten to Death in Bowling Alley Brawl

Police responded to Stelton Lanes early Saturday morning where 250 people were involved in a brawl.

A 23-year-old Newark man was beaten to death at a Piscataway bowling alley on Saturday morning.

According to a press release from the county, police responded to Stelton Lanes at 1:31 a.m. Saturday to find 250 people "involved in a series of fist fights" in the bowling alley and the  surrounding parking lot.

Jamount Atkins was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:26 a.m.

Police from Edison and Piscataway were dispatched to the bowling alley, but no arrests were made, as the crowd scattered quickly upon police arrival, according to the release.

Autopsy results were not available on Saturday, but it is believed Atkins died of a beating, according to the release.
