A Sunday afternoon fire at a Seaman Street house displaced nine people from their home, according to the New Brunswick Fire Department.
Deputy Chief Dean Wournell said the fire department was notified at approximately 3:58 p.m. Sunday and arrived at 141 Seaman St. at 4 p.m.
The official cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed the fire began on the outside of the two-family house while residents were inside. A neighbor banged on the door to alert the occupants to the emergency, Wournell said.
Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze, but the damage left the home uninhabitable, and the Red Cross was called in to assist the residents, Wournell said.
All occupants were able to evacuate themselves safely, and no injuries were reported to them or firefighters, he said.
