Pentecostal Church Destroyed by Fire

The Pentecostal New Life Ministries Church of God in Christ on Remsen Avenue was destroyed by a three-alarm fire on Thursday morning, and is to be torn down, officials say.

A three alarm fire ripped through the Pentecostal New Life Ministries Church of God in Christ on Remsen Avenue Thursday morning, collapsing part of the roof and causing the building to be marked for demolition.

Deputy Fire Chief Tom LoPardo of the New Brunswick Fire Department said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the department responded around 5 a.m. Thursday and found heavy smoke and the fire located in the rear of the church.

The flames spread throughout, causing firefighters to have to fight it entirely from the outside, due to the layout of the building causing unsafe conditions, he said.

Around 11 a.m. Thursday, firefighters were still hosing the building down to extinguish any remaining hot spots.

The church was unoccupied, and no firefighters were injured in the blaze, he said.

The church is to be turned over to the building department to be torn down, as it is a total loss, LoPardo said.

Total Loss? This is a real structural brick walled building and while the roof is gone the tower is standing and even the gorgeous historic staircase inside looks visible in the photo of the open front door. This building is very historic and should be evaluated by third party engineers or architects before they wipe out yet another storied piece of local history.

Maybe much of it can be saved

I totally agree with what the other threads have said. This building is an historic part of New Brunswick history, and it needs to be thoroughly inspected & gone over by other building engineer experts, before it is demolished! To the Pastor & his flock; may I offer my sympathies for the loss of your church at this time. Saints, remember this thought; "God is still on the throne, and prayer changes things"!! As well, remember Paul & Silas, when they were both thrown into jail, how they sang & praised the Lord, and he set them free. So will he set you free from this current calamity. The Lord "WILL" help you to rebuild and to carry on your Godly work for him. Take comfort in the fact that you are "HIS" people.
