UPDATE: Police Expect Over a Dozen Arrests in Narcotics Bust

State Police are expected to release more information later today.

Local and state authorities spent Tuesday morning sweeping parts of New Brunswick and nearby communities in what State Police say was a bust that targeted a narcotics distribution ring.

Authorities spent the morning recovering drugs and weapons during the "very significant operation", and are taking all suspects and evidence to the State Police barracks in Holmdel, said Lt. Stephen Jones, NJ State Police spokesman.

The regional operation includes Middlesex County and some towns outside the county, Jones said.

More information about the arrests is expected to be released later today, Jones said.

A Nixle alert issued Tuesday morning from the New Brunswick Police Department stated that city police were working with other police departments in town today on a "planned operation" resulting from a "lengthy criminal investigation".

Police operations State police were seen moving in and out of a house on Seaman Street on Tuesday morning.

Police tape set up a perimeter in front of the house and officers in tactical vests could be seen going in and out of the first floor of the two-floor residence, as well as checking the front and rear yards.

Around 7:30 a.m., two people, a man and a woman, were taken from a State Police patrol car and frisked by an officer.

New Brunswick Police declined to release information early Tuesday morning.
