Teacher, Middlesex County Woman Pleads Guilty To Inappropriate Talk With Student

A Middlesex County woman who was a special education teacher at the North Brunswick High School has pleaded guilty to charge of engaging in an inappropriate Internet conversation with a 14-year-old male student, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced Monday.

Cara E. Conroy, 33, of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick admitted a count of endangering the welfare of the child, saying she engaged in the sexually-explicit conversation with the student on March 5.

The guilty plea was entered during a hearing in New Brunswick on June 27 before Superior Court Judge Joseph Paone.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Conroy will be placed under parole supervision for life and will be required to register as a Megan’s Law sex offender. She also will surrender her teaching license and will be forever banned from holding a public job in New Jersey.

The agreement was reached with Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Christine D’Elia. Sentencing has been scheduled for September 5, 2014.

Conroy was arrested and charged on March 6 following an investigation by Investigator Melissa Terpanick of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Detective Mike Braun of the North Brunswick Police Department. 

Conroy, who began working for the North Brunswick Board of Education on September 1, 2005, was suspended without pay following her arrest.

The investigation began after the boy’s mother contacted authorities.
