Three Men Indicted in July Talmadge Street Homicide

Eduardo Mendez was shot and killed on Talmadge Street on July 13, 2013.

Three men were indicted last week on charges of killing a New Brunswick man on Talmadge Street in July 2013.

Edwin Morales, 20, and Danilo Lemus-Ramos, 19, both of New Brunswick, and Adrian Islas, 25, of North Brunswick were indicted on charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a handgun, according to a press release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

They were charged in the death of Eduardo Mendez, 19, who was gunned down on Talmadge Street on July 13, 2013.

A first degree count of gang criminality was attached to each of the murder, conspiracy and weapons offenses, as the men acted on behalf of the "18th Street" street gang, the release said.

Morales, also known as Darwin Garcia, has been charged with seven additional counts, including attempted murder, weapons offenses and related gang criminality offenses for previously shooting Mendez on Nov. 27, 2011 in a New Brunswick park, the release said.

Mendez was in the company of another man, who was not injured at the time of the Nov. 27 shooting, causing the jury to identify him as a second victim and add attempted murder and gang criminality counts to the charges facing Morales, the release said.

All three men have remained in jail since their arrests last year.

Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with information to call Det. Brandt Gregus of the New Brunswick Police Department at (732) 745-5217, or Investigator Scott Crocco of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-4471.
