UPDATE: A transformer fire in New Brunswick has caused authorities to close Albany Street to traffic between George Street and Neilson Street, according to a Nixle alert from the New Brunswick Police Department.

The fire did not cause any major structural damage to the surrounding buildings, and no injuries were reported, according to New Brunswick Fire Department Deputy Chief Dean Wournell.

The fire has not caused any outages in the city, according to PSE&G.

The fire was reported at the intersection of George Street and Albany Street near Kilmer Square, just after 11 a.m.

An eyewitness reported seeing a ball of fire from the explosion just after 11 a.m., followed by black smoke.

The fire was caused by an equipment failure, and PSE&G crews are on site repairing the damage, according to a company spokesperson.

This is Obamas fault. If we had guns we could have shot the transformer before it attacked us.

I called 911 right away! It was about 4 feet away from me and my son in the car. Shook my car! It was crazy

I work across the street from there. I heard a BOOM - turned around and saw a ball of fire about two stories high. Scary.
