CAIT Center at Rutgers Receives $2.83 Million Grant

A Rutgers University center is the recipient of an elite honor.

The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded one of only five national university grants to the Rutgers University Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT), nj.com reports.

The grant is worth grant $2.83 million, according to the report.

CAIT tackles ways to make transportation safer and more efficient, including dealing with safety, security and the impact to the environment, according to its website.

It is one of 10 Tier 1 University Transportation Centers, which means it is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The others include Columbia University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Princeton University, the University of Delaware, the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), the University of Virginia, Utah State University and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

Rutgers’ center is the largest, according to its website.

According to nj.com, CAIT researchers with the Rutgers’ center’s pavement lab conducted testing on the pavement outside the White House and helped develop a urine-resistant pavement at Central Park.
