Middlesex County to Host Poverty Forum on Oct. 19

Will feature speakers from several Middlesex County agencies.

To provide a discussion on the state of poverty in Middlesex County, a Poverty Forum will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at Middlesex County College, 2600 Woodbridge Ave.

The forum will take place in Crabiel Hall on the college campus.

According to a release from the county, participating entities include the Poverty Research Institute of Legal Services of New Jersey, the Middlesex County Human Services Advisory Council, the Rutgers Bonner Student Leaders in Civic Engagement and Service Education and Middlesex County College’s Democracy House students.

Featured speakers will also include Bill Waldman of the Rutgers School of Social Work, who will discuss the "Vanishing middle class," according to a press release from the county.

Lisanne Finston of Elijah's Promise will discuss food security, Sen. Joseph Vitale will discuss healthcare, and Eileen O'Donnell, executive director of Coming Home of Middlesex County will discuss affordable housing, along with Melissa Bellamy of the Division of Housing and Social Services, according to the release.

Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in group discussions about the topics covered.

Refreshments will be served and childcare will be provided on site, the release said.
