Rutgers President to Donate $90,000 Bonus to the University

The Board of Governors approved his bonus following a positive performance review last week.

Rutgers University President Robert Barchi will receive a $90.000 bonus, but plans to donate that money back to the school, nj.com reports.

Barchi 66, received the bonus following a positive performance review given by the Board of Governors in executive session at its meeting last week, according to the report.

Barchi already makes $650,000 a year, according to the report.

Last year was Barchi’s first year as University President. Over the course of the year:

* Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice was fired over a player-abuse scandal;

* Athletic Director Tim Pernetti resigned as a result of that scandal;

* New Athletic Director Julie Hermann came under fire from a former employee alleging emotional abuse;

* Rutgers claimed seven of the University of Medicine and Dentistry’s schools in a major merger;

* Senate President Stephen Sweeney challenged the appointment of a member of the Board of Governors and suggested eliminating the Board of Trustees; and

* the University announced it would join the Big 10 conference.
