East Brunswick Boys' Basketball Team Captures All-Brunswick Classic Title

The Bears downed South Brunswick for the title. South Brunswick captured the girls' championship.

The East Brunswick High School boys’ basketball team can claim to be the best of the Brunswicks for the year.

The Bears staked that claim on Monday with a 70-45 win over South Brunswick in the final of the All-Brunswick Basketball Classic at home, according to nj.com.

Amir Bell led all scorers with 24 points, four rebounds and six assists in the win. Greg Sampson had 12 points, followed by Gary Baumer with 10.

Corey Lumpkin led South Brunswick with 15 points. Jason Saldiveri had 12 points for the Bears.

East Brunswick advanced to the final with a 43-42 win over North Brunswick on Friday.

Matt Ross led the way with 15 points in the win. East Brunswick trailed by three points at halftime, 20-17. East Brunswick tied the game in the fourth quarter before going on to victory.

With their tournament victories, the Bears are now 2-1 this season.

South Brunswick picked up its first win of the season, a 64-34 win over New Brunswick in the first round of the tournament, on Friday.

Lumpkn and Jack Engel split the top of the score sheet for the Vikings, with 17 points apiece. Each hit a three-pointer.

Eric Savage had nine points for South Brunswick, which is 1-2 after three games.

Trevon Blakey and Samad Davila each had eight points for the Zebras. Nadier Whitten had seven points for New Brunswick.

New Brunswick remained winless after it fell to North Brunswick, 71-45, in the consolation game. Trevon Blakey had nine points for the Zebras, who are 0-3 this year.

Girls’ basketball

The South Brunswick High School girls’ basketball team asserted its dominance among its neighboring schools and remained undefeated by winning the All-Brunswick Basketball Classic.

The Vikings captured the tournament title with a 35-24 win over previously unbeaten East Brunswick in the final on Saturday at East Brunswick, according to nj.com.

Natalia Louhisdon led all scorers with 10 points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal in the win. Taylor Brantley had eight points.

Kim Anderson led the Bears with eight points, followed by Julia Simoes with seven.

South Brunswick advanced to the final with a 38-19 win over New Brunswick on Friday.

Jackie Siva-Harrison led the Bears with 10 points in the win. Amber Brown had eight points for South Brunswick, which is 3-0 this season.

East Brunswick advanced to the final with a 38-33 win over North Brunswick on Friday.

Dayna Sclafani paved the road to victory in that game with 11 points. Simoes and Allie Warren each had nine points for the Bears, who are 2-1 this season.

New Brunswick fell to 0-3 with a 35-31 loss to North Brunswick in the consolation game.
