Sanu Victim of Cruel Joke Thursday Night

Sports Illustrated reports prank caller identified himself as a representative of the Cincinnati Bengals and told the Rutgers star he was about to be drafted in the first round.

Mdidn't get selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, but a prank call to the Rutgers University star led him to believe he was going to be.

Peter King, of Sports Illustrated and NBC Sports, reported this morning that when the Cincinnati Bengals were on the clock at pick 27 in the first round, Sanu received a phone call from someone who identified himself as a representative of the Bengals. The caller told Sanu that Cincinnati was about to pick him. The Bengals then selected University of Wisconsin guard Kevin Zeitler.

Sanu's agent Mike McCartney even tweeted that Sanu was a Bengal.

"This is a great kid, I guarantee you, and someone played a cruel joke on him,'' McCartney told King in the report. "It is unreal that someone would do that, but it happened.'' 

McCartney later tweeted an apology and reiterated his belief in Sanu.

"Tough night. We all get knocked down in life and we gotta get back up," he tweeted. "I believe in Mohamed Sanu as a player and person!"

The NFL Draft's second and third round will be held tonight starting at 7 p.m., with the final four rounds concluding on Saturday. Various mock drafts have Sanu being picked anywhere from the second through fourth rounds.
