New Brunswick Arts Players Nominated for People's Choice Awards

Visit JerseyArts.com to vote in the 'People's Choice' awards.

New Brunswick's arts houses have again been recognized in the annual People's Choice Awards hosyed by Jerseyarts.com. Online voting runs from Dec. 11 through Jan. 22. New Brunswick is nominated in six categories, including "Favorite Downtown Arts District." Discover Jersey Arts is a partnership between the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and ArtPride New Jersey Foundation to increase awareness of and participation in the arts in the Garden State. Other participating organizations include the New Jersey Theatre Alliance, South Jersey Cultural Alliance, and New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism. DANCE POWER Program Brings Dance to New Brunswick Youth

Princeton Ballet School's DANCE POWER program teaches dance basics to New Brunswick public school students and awards dance scholarship to high performing students.

One of the longest running partnerships between public schools and the arts in New Jersey is located right here in New Brunswick. DANCE POWER is a 20-week program run in the New Brunswick Public School system by the American Repertory Ballet's Princeton Ballet School. DANCE POWER coordinator Kathleen Smith said the program, currently in its 28th year, takes place in third grade physical education classes throughout New Brunswick. Kids learn the basics of stretching and ballet fundamentals, are given introductions to other dance forms and how to move on a stage. Final Hub City Sounds to Feature Two Family-Friendly Performances

Saturday's performances will include George Street Playhouse's "Austin the Unstoppable" and dances by the American Repertory Ballet.

Hub City Sounds will end its free summer series of local music and dance on Saturday, Sept. 29 with performances presented by the George Street Playhouse and the American Repertory Ballet. The show will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Boyd Park. Princeton Ballet School presents Don Quixote at Patriots Theater at the War Memorial

The Princeton Ballet School, the official ballet school of the American Repertory Ballet presented "Don Quixote" at the Trenton War Memorial on May 5 at the Trenton War Memorial. In this video, you young dancers discuss the ballet and what goes into dancing the dances in the Spanish-inspired story. Check it out! New Brunswick Arts Scene Honored

Film festival, dance company and theaters all voted best in the state by a pool of NJ voters in the 2011 People's Choice Awards, run by Discover Jersey Arts

Champions of New Brunswick often say that the arts and entertainment scene here can go toe to toe with Princeton and even New York. Arts enthusiasts recently affirmed those claims in the 2011 People's Choice Awards, awarding the Hub City top honors in several categories. Run by Discover Jersey Arts, which is a collaboration between the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the ArtPride New Jersey Foundation, the Awards tally up votes from state citizens as to their favorite arts and entertainment venues and entities throughout the state. American Repertory Ballet to Present Three-Part Dance Workshop

Grant money from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities to fund community programs in New Brunswick, Princeton and Lawrenceville.

American Repertory Ballet is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The grant money will be used in support of a three-part seminar series aimed at engaging the community through the exploration of humanities and dance. ARB’s program revolves around its new production of the ballet Romeo and Juliet, and is designed to give audiences insight into how various humanities disciplines interpret and communicate specific themes of the human condition.  The three lecture-demonstrations will feature the expertise of local humanities scholars in the areas of musicology, literature and dance.  It will also explore the three …

American Repertory Ballet performers visited young patients dressed as their characters from "The Nutcracker"

The Bristol-Myer's Squibb Children Children's Hospital got a touch of holiday cheer on Dec. 12 with a visit from characters of "The Nutcracker," performed by the American Repertory Ballet. The Snow Queen, a Spanish Dancer, an Arabian Dancer, Marzipan and the Nutcracker himself visited with patients, posing for photos and showing off the "en point" ballet technique.
