Hub City residents flipping the channels this weekend may see someplace very familiar on VH1. The music network was in New Brunswick on Dec. 3 to film a new installment of its "Top 20 Video Countdown", a program that shows the popular music videos of the week. Backdrops for filming included The Vue, Brother Jimmy's BBQ, Scarlet Fever, Thomas Sweet, Monument Square Park, State Theatre, the Stress Factory, Panico's Brick Oven Pizza and Harvest Moon, according to a press release from DEVCO. The program will be aired nationally at 9 a.m. Dec. 8, and at 8 a.m. Dec. 9 and Dec. 11. Check your local listings for channel information.

A job fair will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 10 to fill positions at the new Robert Wood Johnson Health and Wellness Plaza. According to a release from the New Brunswick Development Corporation, both full and part-time jobs are available and include managers, membership counselors, customer service representatives, exercise physiologists, personal trainers, group fitness instructors, Pilates Reformer instructors, aquatic directors, lifeguards, WSI Instructors, nursing RN/LPN, childcare and receptionists. All positions include a complimentary membership to the fitness center and opportunities for advancement, according to the release. A lot is changing on College Avenue in the next few years.
A $295 million renovation project on College Avenue is poised to transform the Rutgers campus, according to New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO) president Chris Paladino. In July, the New Brunswick City Council approved a plan from Rutgers to build a mixed-use structure containing student housing, shopping and dining on the parking lot located at the corner of Hamilton Street and College Avenue, construct a new parking deck and purchase land from the New Brunswick Theological Seminary for the purpose of constructing an honors college and a new academic building. The new Barnes & Noble on Somerset Street will serve as the flagship bookstore of Rutgers University.
After months of construction, the new Barnes & Noble bookstore, which will serve as the main bookstore for Rutgers University, is open for business. With an entrance on Somerset Street, across from the intersection of College Avenue, the three story bookstore boasts a cafe with Starbucks-brand coffee and food, a full selection of books in numerous topics, including a children's section, several reading and study areas, a technology area and Rutgers University apparel. The ground floor of the store is dedicated to textbooks. The bookstore is next to a walkway that leads to the New Brunswick Train Station from Somerset Street, which also opened this past summer. The Public Gallery at The Heldrich will hold an art opening and exhibit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight, featuring the work of two New Jersey artists for Black History Month. $105.1 million project will house a 62,00 sq. foot wellness center, a 49,000 sq. foot Fresh Grocer store, and a 1,275 spot parking garage.
At 11 a.m. Wednesday, New Brunswick dignitaries broke ground on the Health and Wellness Plaza, a structure that is promised to wholly encompass health and wellness for city residents. Overseen by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, the Wellness Center will feature pools, a gymnasium, fitness screenings, personal trainers, community health programs, and physical therapy, said Stephen K. Jones, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital CEO and president. Robert Wood Johnson already operates three Health and Wellness Centers, in Hamilton, Scotch Plains and Old Bridge. Construction projects for downtown New Brunswick train station chug ahead, slated for fall completion.
Construction of the “Gateway Transit Village” and an elevator to the eastbound platform has obstructed foot-traffic around the downtown train station here since early 2010, but relief is in sight. In October 2011, a pedestrian and wheelchair friendly walkway will open, connecting the westbound platform of the station with College Avenue at Somerset Street, according to according to Jean Holtz, vice president of Communications & Operations for the New Brunswick Development Corporation, or DEVCO. This new public passageway, which costs $500,000, is nearly complete. It is a small part of the $135.6 million Gateway project.
