Hub City Sounds Returns This Weekend

The Second Annual Hub City Sounds festival will feature local indie rock, children's performers, dance, hip-hop and jazz.

The New Brunswick Cultural Center is pleased to announce plans for the second annual HUB CITY SOUNDS, a free music, dance and arts festival to be held at the city’s river-front amphitheater at Boyd Park and locations in the city’s downtown on weekends in August and September.

All events are free and open to the public. 

For events at Boyd Park, free parking is available one block away at the Rutgers University Safety Building Deck. Concert-goers are welcome to bring blankets or chairs for lawn seating. Refreshments and cold beverages will be available for sale at the event.

Saturday, August 10, 2013 - 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. FESTIVAL KICK-OFF WEEKEND at Boyd Park
Hub City Sounds’ kick-off event will feature the New Brunswick District Jazz Band (Middle school and high school students) and a multi-genre musical festival consisting of R&B, traditional and contemporary jazz and folk, including JT Jazz Project, Reggae band Judah Tribe and Hip-Hop Artist from Highland Park, David Rush.

Sunday, August 11, 2013 - 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.  GUELAGUETZA at Boyd Park
Celebrating the rich and diverse culture of Oaxaca, Mexico, this annual event is hosted in different cities throughout the United States. New Brunswick is proud to have been chosen as the hosting city in the New Jersey region.

Saturday, August 17, 2013 - 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. STARFISH ROCKS! at State Theatre (15 Livingston Avenue)
Kids and parents alike – get ready to ROCK! StarFish is changing the face of family-friendly entertainment and making the young – and young at heart - sing, dance, and play air guitar. This 5-piece band electrifies kids' music and gives parents the opportunity to share a real rock concert experience with their children. With such lively songs as "Stop, Drop and Rock and Roll," "Air Guitar," and "The StarFish Stomp," StarFish gives kids' music a classic rock
makeover.

Saturday, September 7, 2013 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Doors open at 1 p.m. CoLAB Arts partners to present LOVE NEW BRUNSWICK WEEKEND: A Celebration of the eclectic New Brunswick music sceneat Boyd Park
Don Giovanni Records celebrates artists that got their start as part of the New Brunswick music scene and have gone on to national and international success, featuring rock band Screaming Females.  

Sunday, September 8, 2013 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Doors open at 12 p.m. CoLAB Arts partners to present LOVE NEW BRUNSWICK WEEKEND: A Celebration of the eclectic New Brunswick music scene 90.3 The Core:A celebration of artists that have graduated from Rutgers or are current students and musicians that call New Brunswick home, featuring Zero For Conduct, Dollys, Treatment and Sink Tapes.

New Brunswick Jazz Project in partnership with the Somerville Jazz Festival takes it to  the street for this day-long event filled with traditional and contemporary jazz music.
