Report: Individual Grease Trucks Involved in Secret Negotiations With Rutgers University

A total of seven trucks will be permitted on campus, with no more than two in each location.

As the Aug. 15 date for grease trucks on the Rutgers University campus to move approaches, the University is engaging in a secretive process to position the trucks throughout the campus, New Brunswick Today reports.

According to the report, the number of vendors on campus total will be seven, and no more than two trucks will be permitted in one location, including the College Avenue campus.

Operators of the individual trucks have been meeting with University officials in secretive meetings to obtain the most desirable locations, according to the report, which quotes one vendor as expressing frustration at the lack of procedure and communication from Rutgers if this is true.

Currently, the trucks are all located in Lot 8, creating the feeling of a grease truck hot spot that some fear will disappear if they spread out around campus, according to the report.

The trucks are being asked to relocate due to a $295 million redevelopment deal. They are being asked to leave by Aug. 15 for safety reasons.

Vendors will be asked to pay $1,000 per semester while supplying their own electricity, eliminating their own garbage off campus and vacating their spots from 3 a.m.-6 a.m. daily, according to the report.

Some trucks have already reserved spots, which are described in the report. The lone spot remaining available is on Nichol Avenue, near the old Cooper Dining Hall, according to the report.
