Rutgers, Grease Truck Vendors Reach Tentative Deal

The grease truck vendors must leave their current location by tomorrow as the University begins a reconstruction project.

Rutgers University officials and grease truck vendors have reached a tentative deal for the vendors to move to various locations around campus, nj.com reports.

The University has asked vendors to leave their current location in Lot 8 near the corner of College Avenue and Hamilton Street by Aug. 15 for safety reasons.

The trucks are being asked to relocate due to a $295 million redevelopment deal.

No specific locations for the trucks were initially given, although a New Brunswick Today report last week alleged secret negotiations between the vendors and University officials.

On Wednesday, University officials told nj.com the trucks can begin serving their "fat" sandwiches in new locations all over campus if they finalize paperwork with the University.

Included in that paperwork are food vendor licenses and insurance certificates. Some vendors had not produced the proper paperwork, and University officials were to meet with them Wednesday to work things out, according to the report.

The grease trucks have held a strong presence at Rutgers for more than 20 years, and are famous for their "fat" sandwiches stuffed with things like hamburgers, cheesesteaks, mozzarella sticks and french fries.

Wednesday night will be their final night in their current location.
